Back to the 90s

The 90s were a pretty sweet time. To be honest, I like the 80s more, but I was only around for what, 3 years of it, so it doesn't really count.

Anywho, as I was doing the dishes after work today (how interesting, right?), I found myself humming an old tv show theme song, which is what gave me the idea for this post.

And so, here are some things you probably haven't thought of since the 90s.

TGIF
The best thing to ever happen to Friday nights! Full House, Step by Step, Family Matters...so many good shows. Btw, the song I was referring to above? The Family Matters theme. I wish that show was on Netflix, I'd SO watch it!

Skip It
It was my goal in third grade to master this. I saw other girls at recess who could keep jumping for pretty much the entire half an hour. Me, I was lucky to last 5 minutes.

Gak
That lovely, slimy, whatever it was that came in blob-shaped container and smelled oddly good. Think Play-Doh, but different. It was fun until dropped on the floor, and then it would get covered in dirt and filth. Or someone would step on it and it would get ground into the carpet. Sorry mom!

Spice Girls
I was obsessed with them in fifth grade! I was part of a group of five girls, and we each decided who we would be when we 'put on our concerts'. I always had to be Sporty, despite my lack of athletic ability. I wanted to be Baby, but I wasn't blonde. Around this same time there were countless viewings of 'Spice World', and to this day I still remember how disgusted I was when the spy popped his head out of the toilet. And yes, I do, own the movie. Don't judge me!

Giga Pets
I had a baby t-rex and I loved that thing! We couldn't have them in class so I had to feed it and clean up its poop at recess...lol. If I ever find it, I'm so putting in new batteries and bringing it back to life.

Dunkaroos
Sooo delicious! Like the dessert version of those cheese and crackers with the red stick. I've discovered that birthday cake Oreos taste scarily similar, try them and you'll see!

Tuesday Topics: Five Childhood Pictures

I've found a new linkup that I'm pretty excited about! It's called Tuesday Topics and is hosted by Lauren and Tiffany.

Today's topic is Five Childhood Pictures. I have a virtual goldmine to choose from since my sister posted a ton of old photos on her Facebook.  Let's see what I find....

My sister and I riding in our boat laundry basket. I'm the one in pink.

Trying to look like movie stars....while also pretending to smoke. Classy.

Modeling my Steve Urkel pants. And my sister could fly.

I was obviously up to no good, and trying to hide it by looking sweet.

That hideous shade of pink...those ruffles...this was my idea of 'pretty' at age 7.

Oh the good old days!

It's almost Valentine's Day

(not sure what's up with the formatting on this post, I keep trying to fix it and Blogger isn't letting me...that's why the fonts look all weird)

and because we're getting married later this year, I thought it'd be fun to share how Justin and I met and got to where we are now!

So back in 2009 I was going to school for art and taking what were called 'foundations' classes. One of the classes was 3D Concepts, where we had to make sculptures out of things. There were two guys that sat next to me, and they were always talking to each other and generally acting like fools. The one wasn't all that interesting, but the other caught my attention. His name was Justin. We agreed to go to lunch together at Pita Pit after class one day.

I had just gotten out of a relationship, and Justin still had a girlfriend at the time. We continued to hang out as friends for a few month. Then he told me he had broken up with his girlfriend and did I want to go on an actual date? Of course I did!

From then on we were inseparable. He came with me to family holidays....

We celebrated birthdays together (this was the year my birthday theme was 'Tacky Tea Party' not sure what I'm doing but yes, Justin is wearing a skirt)

We dated for a little over a year and then got engaged on October 15, 2010. It was such an amazing day!

We decided to have a long engagement because I was still in school at the time. So life went on, only now we were (and still are!) engaged.

Now here we are today! The wedding will be in October of this year, and of course I will have a post dedicated to that when the time comes.

I'll leave you with this gem of a photo.

If that doesn't say true love, I don't know what does!

Rants, Raves and Randoms #2!

Just like last time, this post is inspired by the ones Andrea does over at Left Brain, Right Brain, Pug Brain!

Rants

~ I hate winter.  As I'm typing this, my phone tells me it is -5 degrees outside. Yeah. I've never been more envious of people who live in warmer places.

~ Tomorrow is inventory at work. This means I get to stand by my department all day while people count and shout at me to come find prices for things.

~ I got 4 inches cut off my hair a few weeks ago and now I wish I hadn't. I want it long again! In the meantime, I will be using my straightening iron to make it appear longer.

Raves

~ My Pinterest addiction is back in full force! Expect a new Pinterest Lovelies post in the near future!

~ I am loving this nail color that I found at Maurices. It's the perfect shade of teal!

~ This photo I found of my grandparents when they were young. Aren't they adorable?!

Randoms

~ Lately I've been obsessed with the idea of going running. Never mind that I've never been a runner, nor can I run more than a block without getting dizzy and winded. But I keep telling myself that if I got pretty running shoes, I'd actually do it. We'll see....

~ This one day I had a song I liked in my head. I told my sister the lyrics and she's like "You know that's One Direction, right?"  No, I didn't. Apparently I have the music taste of an 11 year old. FML. I suppose this means I'm going to have to like Bieber now too.

~ I've been saying it for months, but I want a puppy! Or a kitten! I haven't had a pet in such a long time and I miss it. If anyone needs a pet sitter, I'm your girl!

Liebster Award!

I got a happy surprise when I checked my blog this morning! Stephili from Heart Soul Inspiration  nominated me for the Liebster Award!

I've never been nominated for anything related to blogging, so I'm super excited! Thank you so much Stephili

 So here’s the rules:
Each person must post 11 things about themselves

Answer the questions that the nominator set for you plus create 11 questions for the people you’ve nominated to answer.

No tag backs!

Eleven things about me
1.  I collect vintage dishes. My dream is to find some super pretty Pyrex to display once I get a cabinet for them! Like these lovelies...
2.  Working at a craft store (Hobby Lobby) means I have a million ideas for projects, but not enough time in the day to make them. Le sigh.
3.  Every time I see a photo of Little Richard, it makes me giggle. It's not that I don't respect the guy, I know he's a legendary singer. But that mustache! For the longest time I thought he was wearing lip liner. I can't be the only one, right?

4.  I envy people who are good at doing their hair. I try my hardest and the best I can do is messy buns and waves. My dream is to master french braiding because it's so pretty.

5.  Owls are my favorite animals; I have them arranged throughout my house.

6.  I love the game Clue and the movie based on it. I'm always Miss Scarlett when I play.

7. There is a baby squirrel that lives in the tree in front of our house, but I've yet to get a photo of him; he's too quick!

8.  I dislike any sort of yard work. Shoveling snow, mowing, raking leaves...I hate it all.

9.  I have a weakness for sweets. My favorites are peanut butter cups and saltwater taffy.

10.  I went to art school for awhile, but had to drop out when it got too expensive.

11. I'm fascinated by photos from New York City in the 1970s. I'm not sure why, because I obviously wasn't around then and have never been there. Yet I could look at photos like this for hours.

Stephili's Questions

1. If you could live in any time period which would you choose to live in and why?

I would want to live in the 60s or 70s. From what I've gathered through pictures and books it was such an interesting time to be alive. That and I really like 60s fashions.

2. Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

I have two. I'm inspired by my mom, because she's always there for me and is a hard worker in everything she does, yet she still knows how to relax and have fun. My other inspiration is Anna Karina, mostly for her style and the films she's been in, but also she seems like she'd be a cool lady to meet.

3. You just won $2 Million in the lottery…. What are you going to do with the money?

Pay off my loans and the rest of my bills. Buy a new car and some new clothes. Make a down payment on a house. Get some presents for Justin and my family. Then put the rest in savings.

4. What is your favorite quote?

"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious."
~Albert Einstein

5. Do you like sunny days or rainy days more?

I like a mixture of both. Like when a day starts out rainy and then the sun comes out.

6. What is your favorite holiday and why?

Either the 4th of July or Halloween, I like fireworks and warm weather, but also pumpkins and costumes.

7. What has been the most memorable moment in your life so far?

The day Justin proposed to me. I'll remember that day forever!

8. Post a picture of where you’re from and tell us a little about it.

I live in an average sized city in Iowa. It's a nice place to live; a good mix of things to do without being surrounded by gazillions (that's probably not a word, is it?) of people.

9. You get to pick where you want to eat. Where is it and what kind of food is served?

I'm by no means a restaurant expert. Take me somewhere with good mushroom pasta and I'll be happy!

10. List 3 things in your life that mean everything to you.

Justin. My family. My coworkers. I've met some of my best friends at work and they've become my second family.

11. What do you love the most about blogging?

Getting to express my thoughts and meet new friends!

My questions for you...

1.  If you could go back to any age you've been so far, what would it be and why?
2.  Favorite color?
3.  Are you a morning person or a night owl?
4.  Coffee, tea, or something else?
5.  What's something you'd recommend a visitor to do for fun if they came to your city/town?
6.  What's your favorite song at the moment? I need some new tunes!
7.  Would you consider yourself more imaginative or practical?
8.  Do you have any pets? What kind and what are their names?
9.  Favorite season?
10.  Last book you read? Did you like it?
11.  What is your earliest memory?
